What Is The Difference Between A Steam Room And An Infrared Sauna?

A steam room and an infrared sauna may have tons of similarities, but they’re also clearly different.

For starters, let’s define basic terms:

    • An infrared sauna will apply heat directly to your body via infrared rays. These rooms are typically wood-based, and it has been like this since they were introduced to the industry. An infrared sauna will generate dry heat.

    • A steam room is slightly different, as they generate moist heat instead. Furthermore, the process happens in an airtight room that doesn’t have to be made of wood necessarily. Still, non-porous material is necessary for the treatment to be as effective as possible.

Steam room vs. Infrared Sauna: How do they work?

Although both options have similar benefits, they work differently to achieve almost the same results.

For instance, we’ve already mentioned that a steam room produces moist heat, often around a temperature of 110F, so the user can start sweating. They need a steam generator to be in an isolated room for the process to happen. The humidity levels can make the room appear hotter than it actually is to the user.

On the other hand, infrared saunas are exactly the opposite. They do not warm your body from the outside but do so from the inside. Instead, the infrared rays will penetrate your skin using dry heat, which has been proven to be more effective in producing a sweat response in the human body than steam rooms.

    Conclusion

As you can see, both options achieve the same results by different means. This is because they are similar products but act in completely different ways.

At the end of the day, we all have our preferences. It is up to you to choose an option that suits you best, but remember to consult with a professional before submitting yourself for any treatment.
